Valentine's Day brought sweet rewards for the Offspring, Lauryn Hill, 'N Sync, and Britney Spears, who will remain atop the album chart next week according to sales figures released by SoundScan on Wednesday. Spears saw her numbers jump for the fifth straight week as sales of her "Baby One More Time" leapt from 181,000 last week to 229,000 this week, helping her keep a firm hold on the number one slot. The Offspring's "Americana" saw a bit of a bump as well from sales of 109,000 last week to 129,000 this week as the album grabs the number two spot on the album chart. Lauryn Hill, 'N Sync, and the Dixie Chicks saw sales increases as well as they rounded out the top five. Britney Spears In all, 17 of the top 20 albums (and 44 of the top 50) saw their sales figures go up over last week's numbers. The only top 20 artists who actually saw their sales figures dip were Foxy Brown (whose "Chyna Doll" drops to number 10), Silkk The Shocker (whose "Made Man" slips to number 15), and R. Kelly (who sees his "R." slip to number 16). The week proved to be a thin one for debuts, as Collective Soul scored the highest new chart appearance of the week at number 21.

2.16.99 16:00 EST Marilyn Manson, Rose McGowan To Tie The Knot Rose McGowan with Marilyn Manson In a move that will make her the bride of Satan in the eyes of many, actress Rose McGowan announced on Tuesday that she plans to wed wed her boyfriend, Marilyn Manson. On Tuesday afternoon, McGowan told MTV News that Manson had recently popped the question. "I was in the bathtub, he lit candles, it was very nice. It was very romantic", McGowan told MTV News of Manson's proposal. A spokesperson for Manson confirmed the announcement, but noted that the two have not yet set a date. "It's funny because people think that we're becoming conventional, but I think it will actually give us more freedom to be crazy", McGowan told MTV News of her impending family life with the current king of shock rock. "The more comfortable we get with each other, the crazier we become individually, so I actually expect him to be ten times as crazy. I think this will totally probably free us both up to be way more crazy, and we're the only two people in the world that are kind of as crazy as each other, so we're perfectly compatible [28.8 RealAudio]." McGowan first floated the news Tuesday morning during an appearance on Howard Stern's radio show, and explained the announcement later that day to our friends in the MTV Radio Network. Ironically, McGowan visited Stern's studio at New York's K-ROCK to plug her upcoming film "Jawbreaker," which also features a cameo by her soon-to-be husband.
